Fugro has secured a contract to carry out an extensive offshore survey programme supporting pipeline planning for the Greater Sunrise and Bayu-Undan developments in Timor-Leste. The programme will combine geophysical and seismic surveys with autonomous underwater vehicle technology to characterise the seabed along potential pipeline routes. Survey activities will cover a challenging offshore environment, including deepwater areas exceeding 3,000 metres.
The resulting Geo-data and geotechnical insights will support pipeline routing, engineering design, geohazard assessment and the safe execution of future offshore operations. Fugro will use advanced AUV systems supported in real time by its Remote Operations Centres, while data processing and quality control will be undertaken at the company’s regional centres in Kuala Lumpur and Perth.
Mobilisation and planning are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with offshore operations scheduled to start in the fourth quarter. The approximately three-month campaign will include geophysical, seismic, environmental and AUV surveys across both development areas.
The award highlights the importance of detailed seabed characterisation in planning complex deepwater infrastructure and marks a further step in the development of two projects considered central to Timor-Leste’s long-term energy ambitions.
