Nanometrics and K.U.M. Umwelt- und Meerestechnik Kiel (KUM) have announced a strategic partnership to deliver an integrated passive seismic monitoring solution for offshore energy and carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects.
The collaboration combines KUM's expertise in offshore deployment and ocean-bottom sensing with Nanometrics' passive seismic instrumentation, AI-assisted data processing and continuous monitoring capabilities. The partners aim to provide end-to-end services covering baseline seismicity surveys, long-term monitoring and data interpretation throughout the lifecycle of offshore projects.
The solution will immediately support the Greensand Future CCS project in the Danish North Sea, where pre-injection baseline seismicity surveys will be carried out using KUM's NAMMU ocean-bottom deployment vehicles equipped with Nanometrics' ocean-bottom seismometers. The recorded data will be processed using Nanometrics' 24/7 monitoring centre and AI-based seismic analysis workflows to establish baseline seismicity prior to CO₂ injection and support ongoing monitoring during storage operations.
According to the companies, the integrated offering will also be available for offshore oil and gas developments and CCS projects worldwide.
