Equinor has agreed to acquire a 17.4% participating interest in Petroleum Exploration Licence 90 from Chevron subsidiary Harmattan Energy, marking its entry into Namibia.
PEL 90 covers Block 2813B in the offshore Orange Basin and includes a drill-ready prospect scheduled to be tested in 2026. The licence is operated by Chevron, which will retain a 35.1% interest following completion of the transaction.
The other partners are QatarEnergy with 27.5%, Trago Energy with 10% and Namibia’s national oil company NAMCOR with 10%.
The agreement gives Equinor exposure to one of the Atlantic Margin’s most closely watched exploration basins, where recent discoveries have established multiple petroleum plays. The planned well will provide new data on the prospectivity of this part of the basin and help determine whether the successful plays extend into Block 2813B.
Completion remains subject to regulatory approval.
