Viridien has secured a five-year contract from Ithaca Energy to provide environmental monitoring and marine situational awareness for the Greater Stella Area in the UK North Sea.
The OPRED-approved approach combines AIS vessel surveillance through Sercel’s Marlin Vessel Tracking and Alerts platform with satellite-derived environmental intelligence from Viridien’s SeaScope service. It will be deployed as an alternative to conventional guard-vessel coverage during post-decommissioning monitoring.
Marlin integrates real-time vessel movements, offshore infrastructure, geofences and automated proximity alerts with SeaScope satellite imagery and interpreted sea-surface data. The combined system will help Ithaca identify potential releases, investigate their origins and distinguish asset-related events from third-party activity.
Sercel CEO Jérôme Denigot said the contract demonstrated how the complementary technologies could help operators identify risks earlier and manage both producing and decommissioned offshore assets.
