Egypt is preparing a seismic survey covering approximately 110,000 km² of the western Western Desert near the Libyan border — an area that has seen little to no previous petroleum exploration.
The contract has been awarded to Ardiseis following a competitive tender. The programme will establish a new geological and geophysical database, helping operators evaluate basin architecture and identify potential oil and gas plays across this extensive frontier area.
Representing around 11% of Egypt’s territory, the survey forms part of a wider effort to open new exploration opportunities and attract investment through improved regional subsurface data.
The scale of the survey highlights the Egyptian government’s effort to expand exploration beyond established producing areas.
