Chevron is advancing its Mediterranean exploration efforts, with plans to begin seismic data acquisition across four offshore blocks in Greece by the end of 2026.
Following a meeting between Chevron Country Manager Beatrice Bienvenu and Greek Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou, it was confirmed that the initial seismic work will target the Ionian Sea and deep-sea areas south of the Peloponnese and Crete. This marks a critical first step in assessing the region's hydrocarbon potential ahead of any test drilling decisions.
Earlier this year, Chevron significantly expanded its footprint in the region by acquiring a 70% stake in a block southwest of the Ionian Sea from Helleniq Energy.
Expanding into Greek waters complements Chevron’s robust Eastern Mediterranean strategy, building on its active natural gas operations in Israel and established interests in Egypt and Cyprus.
