Shearwater Geoservices has been awarded a contract to conduct a 3D seismic survey supporting the appraisal of carbon storage potential in the Bonaparte Basin, offshore northern Australia.
The 50-day survey is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026 and will be carried out using the seismic vessel SW Bly.
The acquired geophysical data will help identify and refine prospective storage areas and define potential locations for future CO₂ injection wells. It will also provide a baseline dataset for possible future 4D seismic monitoring of injected CO₂.
This will be Shearwater’s second carbon capture and storage-related survey in the Bonaparte Basin, following a similar campaign in 2024.
‘Shearwater has established a strong position in supporting carbon storage projects globally, and we look forward to returning to Australia for a second related survey,’ said Shearwater CEO Irene Waage Basili.
Basili added that CCS surveys represent a natural extension of the company’s seismic acquisition and geophysical capabilities.
