SLB has been selected as the strategic reservoir partner for the pioneering Havstjerne carbon storage project in the Norwegian North Sea. Operated by Harbour Energy in partnership with Stella Maris CCS, the large-scale offshore development aims to provide critical offshore CO2 storage capacity for industrial emitters across Europe.
As part of the agreement, SLB will coordinate an integrated scope of work for the concept and front-end engineering and design (FEED) phases. This includes connecting subsurface reservoir analysis with injection well design, CO2 monitoring plans, and subsea infrastructure. Crucially, SLB's OneSubsea joint venture will deliver the concept and FEED for the subsea injection system, featuring state-of-the-art all-electric trees, a template manifold, and advanced control systems.
Backed by a €225 million grant from the EU Innovation Fund and utilising a low-pressure floating storage and injection concept, Havstjerne is poised to be a cost-effective and highly reliable decarbonisation solution. An appraisal well successfully drilled in 2025 has already confirmed the reservoir's high quality, cementing a strong technical foundation as the project advances toward a final investment decision.
