First Break: leader in the field
First Break is the leading publication in Europe serving the geoscience and engineering community. While the main emphasis is on the oil and gas E&P industry, reflecting the membership of the EAGE, the magazine also includes coverage of important related areas. As a result First Break has a circulation that extends well beyond the membership of the EAGE and is read worldwide as an authoritative source of relevant news, features, analysis and accessible technical information. Since 1983, First Break has been the publication of choice for many decision-makers and specifiers in geoscience-related organisations, and is considered an ideal advertising medium to reach a focused audience in Europe and further afield.
News and analysis: One of the strong points of First Break over the years has been its focused news section. It provides a monthly opportunity for following developments in the worldwide E&P industry as well as other activities where geoscience and engineering have a key role. Coverage includes updates on significant events, companies, products/services, technical developments and people in the spotlight.
Special topic: Every month First Break features a Special Topic highlighting one of the chief areas of interest and activity for the geoscience and engineering community. The Topic is normally covered by a mix of original technical articles, features contributed from companies, research organisations, etc., dealing with case studies and the latest technology, and interview/profiles designed to present views and opinions on movements in the industry. First Break welcomes contributions to its Special Topics.
A core element of First Break’s appeal is its continuous flow of authoritative, refereed technical articles, presenting new developments in science and technology to a wider audience. The high quality of research implicit in these articles is the reason why First Break is frequently cited as an important source for reference material.
First Break operates a very open policy on the range of articles it includes from industrial sources. Articles (without undue commercial bias) are published throughout the year from specialists in the E&P business as well as other relevant industries where geoscience and engineering have a significant role. Industrial features normally deal with new technology, research projects or case studies.
As the official publication of the EAGE, First Break provides a monthly minimum of four pages of news and information for members about the Association’s activities and plans.
