Viridien and Aker BP have entered into a five-year strategic partnership aimed at advancing ocean bottom node (OBN) seismic acquisition, imaging and technology development on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).
The agreement establishes a long-term framework for collaboration across multi-client OBN seismic projects, with a focus on aligning exploration strategies, accelerating technology innovation and improving subsurface understanding. The companies said the partnership is intended to support more efficient exploration and help unlock additional hydrocarbon resources across the NCS.
By combining Aker BP’s operational experience with Viridien’s seismic imaging capabilities and expertise, the collaboration will also expand Viridien’s multi-client OBN coverage in Norway. The partners aim to leverage advanced acquisition, imaging and processing technologies to enhance data quality and reduce exploration risk.
Petter Sørhaug, Exploration & Reservoir Development at Aker BP, said the partnership supports the company’s ambition to deliver profitable and sustainable growth on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. He noted that ocean bottom node seismic has become a key enabler for improved subsurface imaging and higher-quality data in both exploration and field development.
Viridien highlighted the role that advanced seismic imaging and local geological knowledge have played in supporting near-field exploration and recent discoveries in the region. The company said the agreement reflects its long-term commitment to investing in technology and exploration activities on the NCS.
According to both companies, the collaboration will focus on developing technologies that improve the efficiency, cost-effectiveness and overall value of OBN seismic programmes, while supporting future exploration and development opportunities offshore Norway.
