TGS and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) have started a large-scale seismic reimaging project covering 34,000 line km offshore Egypt.
The EGY-2DRE2026 project will combine data from TGS GeoStreamer surveys acquired in 2016, 2018 and 2023 with other available conventional 2D seismic data. The objective is to create a consistent regional framework across Egypt’s offshore basins.
The combined dataset will undergo advanced velocity-model building and pre-stack depth migration, incorporating TGS’s proprietary DM-eFWI technology. The processing is intended to improve imaging of the pre-, intra- and post-Messinian salt intervals, which have historically presented significant exploration challenges.
TGS said the resulting basin-wide structural framework would support prospect identification and maturation in the offshore Nile Delta, Herodotus Basin and wider Eastern Mediterranean. The data could also help operators prioritise exploration expenditure ahead of an anticipated future Egyptian licensing round.

Final products covering a priority selection of 2D lines are scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2027. Completion of the full project is expected in the first quarter of 2028.
