Petrobras has announced a new gas discovery at the Sandia-1 exploration well in the GUA-OFF-0 Block, further strengthening the emerging gas province offshore Colombia.
Sandia-1 is located approximately 42 km from the Colombian coast in 1251 m of water. The well lies 18 km from the Sirius-1 discovery and Sirius-2 appraisal wells, and 9 km from the Copoazu-1 discovery.
Drilling began on 12 June and reached a final depth on 29 July 2026. Petrobras said the gas-bearing intervals are now being evaluated using well-log data, with samples due to undergo laboratory analysis. No estimate of discovered volumes has yet been disclosed.
The discovery adds another data point to a growing cluster of deepwater gas finds in the Colombian Caribbean. Petrobras and Ecopetrol previously estimated that the Sirius accumulation could contain more than 6 trillion cubic feet of gas in place.
Petrobras International Braspetro’s Colombian branch operates GUA-OFF-0 with a 44.44% interest, while Ecopetrol holds the remaining 55.56%.
