Shearwater has been awarded a Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) seismic programme by ExxonMobil Guyana Limited for work in the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana.
The two-month project involves source-only seismic acquisition to support a baseline DAS reservoir surveillance survey over the Yellowtail development area. The survey will be conducted by the SW Empress, operating in a triple-source configuration following completion of a multi-client project elsewhere in South America.
Distributed Acoustic Sensing is increasingly being used for reservoir monitoring, enabling operators to capture time-lapse subsurface information through fibre-optic sensing systems. Baseline surveys provide a reference dataset against which future changes in reservoir performance can be measured.
According to Shearwater, the project highlights growing industry interest in DAS-based reservoir surveillance and demonstrates the flexibility of modern seismic acquisition vessels to switch between different operational modes.
The Stabroek Block continues to be a focal point for development activity following a series of major discoveries and ongoing field developments led by ExxonMobil and its partners.
