TGS has launched a comprehensive 3D PSDM Multi-Parameter-FWI reprocessing project covering approximately 514 square kilometers over PETRONAS’ 2025 Megah discovery in Block SB-3K, offshore Sabah, Malaysia. Processing for the initiative officially began in July 2026, with final products scheduled for delivery in April 2027.
To deliver a substantially improved and modernized dataset, the project will revitalize TGS' legacy Geostreamer Sabah multi-client 3D Phase 2 data, originally acquired in 2017. The company is applying its advanced Elastic Multi-Parameter Full Waveform Inversion along with cutting-edge depth imaging technologies to the historical data. This sophisticated approach aims to generate a high-resolution velocity model and precise diffraction imaging across the entire Megah Field, offering unprecedented clarity of the region's complex geology.
The strategic importance of this project is closely tied to the recent success in the basin. David Hajovsky, Executive Vice President of Multi-Client at TGS, emphasized that the Megah discovery has strongly reinforced the exploration potential of the area. He noted that advanced reprocessing plays a vital role in reducing subsurface uncertainty.
Ultimately, the newly reprocessed data will empower the energy sector with a much clearer picture of the subsurface architecture offshore Sabah.
