It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Antonia Hardwick, a long-standing contributor to the EAGE’s activities, on 23 June 2026, at the untimely age of 50.
A broad-ranging career that began with Master’s and PhD qualifications from Leeds and Leicester, UK, respectively, quickly became one that included being a great supporter of student education, devising and hosting many research-led student internships. At the same time Hardwick worked in the seismic processing sector in the 2000s and 2010s as an experienced and senior processor, team leader and researcher regularly presenting at national and international level meetings.
Post-Covid, as for so many in the geosciences, a reset and re alignment followed. Whilst maintaining education work through courses presented for UK universities, Hardwick turned industrially to important forward-looking exploration for critical minerals, close to home in the north-east of England, using potential field and electrical/electromagnetic techniques and skills embedded from her postgraduate student days.
Most recently, Hardwick served as a hugely valued member of the EAGE’s Student Affairs Committee, contributing to the design and judging of the Laurie Dake Challenge and the GET student competitions even as recently as the 2026 EAGE Annual in Aberdeen, UK.
Committee members described her as ‘great fun and always having an original take on things’, and having a ‘colourful personality, professionalism, and drive’ – a view shared by all. She will be much missed, and our sincere condolences go out to all her family and friends.
