Senegal has signed an agreement with Eni to evaluate the exploration potential of five offshore blocks as the country seeks to attract renewed investment in its sedimentary basins.
Under the memorandum of understanding, Eni will finance and undertake a programme of technical studies covering blocks SN01M, SN02M, SN03M, SN07M and SN40M.
The work will include geological and geophysical analyses intended to improve understanding of the blocks’ subsurface potential and support future exploration decisions.
Senegal’s national oil company Petrosen will play a central role in the initiative. The agreement forms part of the government’s strategy to revitalise oil and gas exploration following the start of production from the Sangomar field and the development of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim gas project.
Senegal has also announced plans to offer 109 oil and gas blocks to domestic and international investors.
