Viridien has commenced seismic imaging of its Langkasuka multi-client 3D survey offshore West Peninsular Malaysia, combining 12,300 km² of streamer data with 3,300 km² of sparse ocean-bottom node data.
The project represents the first combined streamer and sparse-OBN multi-client 3D dataset acquired in the Asia-Pacific region. It also marked the region’s first deployment of dual Sercel TPS broadband seismic sources in a hybrid-receiver survey.
Viridien will apply advanced imaging technologies, including time-lag full-waveform inversion, to improve the imaging of complex pre-Tertiary sequences in the Langkasuka Basin. Of particular exploration interest is a previously unexplored Palaeozoic sedimentary section identified beneath the Malacca Strait.
Dechun Lin, Head of Earth Data at Viridien, said the project aims to deliver “proprietary-grade, drill-ready data” through a multi-client framework and help explorers evaluate the potential of this frontier basin.
Early imaging results are expected in October 2026.
