Staatsolie has received a proposal for an area in Sector 2: SHO EAST under its Open Acreage Offshore Suriname Open-Door Offering, continuing the recent increase in interest in the country's offshore acreage. In line with the Open-Door Process, qualified companies now have a 90-day window to submit competing proposals, with the bidding period closing on 5 October 2026.
The latest submission follows recent proposals for Sector 3: DEMERARA and Sector 4: DW WEST, reflecting growing exploration activity across Suriname's offshore basins. The Open Acreage programme is designed to provide companies with ongoing access to available acreage outside traditional licensing rounds, supporting continued investment in one of the world's most active frontier exploration regions.
Interest in Suriname's offshore sector has accelerated as the country prepares for first oil from the GranMorgu development and seeks to build a broader exploration portfolio across the Guyana–Suriname Basin, one of the industry's most promising emerging petroleum provinces.
