Nigeria has shortlisted 161 companies in the final stage of the bid round process for 57 marginal oilfields in the country.
Paul Osu, head of public affairs, at the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) said that the firms were selected from more than 600 companies which applied for pre-qualification.
Nigeria’s marginal fields are categorized as having reserves booked and reported annually to the DPR and to have remained unproduced for a period of more than 10 years.
Osu said Nigeria last conducted marginal field bid rounds in 2003, with 16 of the fields now contributing 2% to the national oil and gas reserves.
