The Australian government has approved Santos’ proposed 3D seismic marine survey over a portion of exploration permit areas WA-435-P, WA-436-P, WA-437-P and WA-438-P in the Bedout sub-basin off Western Australia.
The Australian government has approved Santos’ proposed 3D seismic marine survey over a portion of exploration permit areas WA-435-P, WA-436-P, WA-437-P and WA-438-P in the Bedout sub-basin off Western Australia.
The data is required to develop regional geologic models to inform the exploration permit strategy and the potential location of future wells.
The 20,160 km2 survey will take at least 132 days to complete, with operations occurring on a 24-hour basis.
Australia’s National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Management Agency has also commissioned Inpex to acquire a 2D seismic survey of exploration permits WA-50-L, WA-532-P and WA-533-P in the Browse and Offshore Canning Basins off Western Australia.
Seismic data acquisition will mainly take place in water depths between approx. 50 m and 600 m below mean sea level. However, some seismic data acquisition may occur in shallower areas at Lynher Bank in the southern part of WA-532-P where the shallowest water depth is approx. 30 m, and east of WA-533-P where the shallowest water depth is approx. 37 m.
Both surveys are expected to take place next year or the year after.
