TGS has acquired Apparition Geoservices GmbH, giving the company exclusive access to its proprietary simultaneous-source acquisition and separation technology.
Apparition is a seismic acquisition and processing methodology that allows multiple sound sources to operate at the same time in a controlled and coordinated way. By using precise timing to encode sources distinctly, overlapping signals can be separated more effectively during processing. This can increase acquisition efficiency and source capacity while maintaining data quality.
TGS said it has tested Apparition over the past two years across different acquisition configurations and marine environments. These tests included a Hexa Source configuration, with reported operational efficiency gains of up to 30%, cleaner signal recovery, improved low-frequency performance, and better visibility of deeper and more complex subsurface targets.
The company plans to integrate Apparition with its Gemini Enhanced Frequency Source technology and wider acquisition and imaging workflows. According to TGS, the combined approach can support ocean bottom node, towed streamer and Ultra-High Resolution 3D seismic surveys.
For clients, the technology is intended to improve survey economics, reduce project timelines and support more confident exploration and development decisions. TGS said the acquisition strengthens its multi-source and deblending strategy and forms part of its integrated technology roadmap.
