TGS has announced a new 237,700 km² 2D-cubed project offshore South Papua, Indonesia, aimed at creating a regional-scale 3D seismic volume from existing 2D and 3D datasets.
The multi-client project will integrate legacy seismic data across several underexplored frontier basins in offshore South Papua, a region close to proven hydrocarbon systems including the Abadi (Masela) field. By applying structurally conformable interpolation, the project is designed to provide a more coherent regional subsurface framework for basin screening and exploration evaluation.
Machine-learning tools will also be used during the processing workflow, including denoise algorithms and quality-control steps to improve input data before interpolation. The resulting dataset is expected to connect with TGS’ existing West Berau and Timor-Leste 2D-cubed projects, creating broader regional continuity across eastern Indonesia and the Timor Sea.
For exploration teams, the project may provide a useful screening tool for assessing structural and stratigraphic opportunities in a frontier area where modern regional seismic coverage remains limited.
