Anadarko Peru is advancing its deepwater exploration project in the Trujillo Basin to a third exploration period, which includes drilling the first exploration well in Block Z-62 in 2027.
The decision follows the acquisition and interpretation of 6,018 km² of 3D marine seismic data across Blocks Z-61, Z-62 and Z-63. Acquired in 2024, it was reportedly the largest 3D seismic survey conducted along the Pacific coast and represented an investment of approximately $40 million.
The data has helped characterise the basin’s subsurface geology and identify potential hydrocarbon targets offshore the La Libertad and Lambayeque regions. Drilling will now provide the first direct test of the prospectivity identified in the seismic data.
For the underexplored Trujillo Basin, the move represents an important transition from regional subsurface evaluation to exploration drilling.
