Equinor and Aker BP have made a gas and condensate discovery at the Linga prospect in the Norwegian North Sea.
Exploration well 25/7-13 was drilled in production licence 782 S, approximately 16 km northwest of the Balder field. Targeting Late Jurassic reservoir rocks, the well encountered gas and condensate in separate Draupne Formation sandstone layers with a combined thickness of 13 metres. Reservoir quality was described as moderate.
Preliminary estimates place recoverable volumes at between 0.1 and 2.1 million standard cubic metres of oil equivalent. The well reached a vertical depth of 4,606 metres in 126 metres of water. It was not formation-tested, although extensive cores and hydrocarbon samples were collected before it was permanently plugged and abandoned.
Equinor operates the licence with a 60% interest, while Aker BP holds 40%. The partners will now assess the result alongside previous wells to evaluate the licence’s remaining exploration potential.
