Angola’s National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG), ExxonMobil Angola and their Block 15 partners have announced a new oil discovery at the Vicango Este-01 exploration well.
Located approximately 370 kilometres northwest of Luanda, the well was drilled in a water depth of around 940 metres. It encountered approximately 25 metres of high-quality, hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone.
Vicango Este-01 represents the twentieth discovery on Block 15, one of Angola’s most productive deepwater assets. The block has produced more than 2.7 billion barrels of oil during the past three decades.
According to ExxonMobil Angola managing director Brian Unietis, the discovery could enhance the value of Block 15’s existing infrastructure and support future production opportunities.
The result demonstrates the remaining exploration potential of Angola’s mature deepwater acreage as operators seek opportunities that can be developed using established offshore facilities.
