Québec Innovative Materials Corp. (QIMC) has launched two non-invasive 2D seismic surveys totalling approximately 78 line-kilometres across its natural hydrogen projects in Québec and Nova Scotia.
The programme comprises 36 line-kilometres of Vibroseis acquisition at the Témiscamingue project in Québec and 42 line-kilometres across nine survey segments in Nova Scotia. It is QIMC’s largest geophysical campaign to date.
The surveys will image faults, basement contacts, sedimentary packages and structural intersections that may control hydrogen migration and accumulation. The resulting data will be integrated with drilling, soil-gas sampling, geological mapping and ground magnetic surveys.
In Nova Scotia, QIMC will investigate the possible structural relationship between hydrogen-bearing drill holes and regional surface anomalies. The Québec survey will refine the geological model around anomalies identified at St-Bruno-de-Guigues and help select locations for further drilling, pressure testing and flow testing.
The road-based surveys require no shot-hole drilling, explosives, hydraulic fracturing or reservoir stimulation. QIMC said the results would support the next phase of characterisation and its proposed pilot-production pathway.
